Our History
The Journey of Faith and Intercession
A Divine Journey
The IFN was formally incorporated in 1991, albeit it had existed informally since the 1980s as a platform of non-denominational and inter-denominational intercession and prayer mobilization for the fulfillment of God's prophetic agenda for the nation.
Two men who began the IFN were Barr. Emeka Nwankpa and Engr. Steve Olumuyiwa, spiritual protégés of the late Pastor Sidney Granville Elton, an English Missionary, who came to Nigeria under the aegis of The Apostolic Church in 1938. Pa Elton as he was fondly called will be remembered as the one who taught Barr. Emeka Nwankpa and his friends, (during their University years), the first principles of Praying for their Nation of Nigeria.
1980s
The Seed is Planted
They began to practice praying for Nigeria as a duty, but later it became their life passion and dedication. The foundation was laid by Pa Elton's teaching on the first principles of praying for their nation during their university years.
Key Milestone
IFN existed informally as a platform for non-denominational intercession.
1983
Divine Mandate Received
At a meeting at the Polytechnic, Ibadan, God spoke through two missionaries to Barr. Emeka Nwankpa and Engr. Steve Olumuyiwa, stating simply "Raise Intercessors for Me." This divine mandate became the foundation of IFN's mission.
Key Milestone
Received clear divine mandate to train intercessors systematically across Nigeria.
1991
Formal Incorporation
The IFN was formally incorporated, transitioning from an informal platform to an organized movement. After receiving the divine mandate, they began asking the Lord questions about the nation and the church, with His answers forming the foundational bedrock of what would be imparted to countless intercessors.
Key Milestone
Transitioned from informal platform to formally incorporated organization.
Growth Years
Leadership Expansion
As the work grew over time, the leadership was enlarged with the inclusion of Dr. Kole Akinboboye, Engr. Ntiense-Ubon Israel and Dr. Uduak Udofia into the National Leadership. Each of these men with their wives brought unique gifts, help and sacrifice needed to build the IFN.
Key Milestone
Expanded national leadership team to support growing ministry.
Present Day
Nationwide Network
Currently, IFN has Houses of Prayer all over the Nation. The scope and mandate of this prayer movement has grown over the years, with systematic training of intercessors happening at every level across Nigeria and beyond.
