INTERCESSORS FOR NIGERIA

PROJECT PSALM 46

INVOKING GOD’S HELP AND PROTECTION
OVER NIGERIA IN TIMES LIKE THIS

INTRODUCTION

Amidst the present state of the nation with the overhang of insecurity: insurgency, terrorism, kidnapping, beheadings, banditry, rape, violence, widespread bloodshed, robberies among others, there is a clear leading by the Holy Spirit to embark on an intensive Prayer Project.

This exercise tagged, ‘PROJECT PSALM 46’ entails numerous declaration/proclamations of the PSALM daily, throughout the year, to raise a cloud of protection and peace over our nation.

PSALM 46

1. God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2. Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3. Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
4. There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
5. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just as the break of dawn.
6. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
7. The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
8. Come, behold the works of the LORD,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
9. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.
10. Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
11. The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah – (NKJV)

INVITATION

We call on all praying Christians, both young and old, from all tribes, denominations, professions and all walks of life to participate and flow into this Project for Nigeria based on PSALM 46.

MODE OF PROJECT

All who will participate in this Prayer Project must commit to daily declaring PSALM 46 aloud as many times as possible but not less than SEVEN Times.

The essence of declaring it loudly over and over is to engage the power and virtue of concentration over this PSALM in order to release the Spirit and life it carries to impact the Spiritual atmosphere over the nation.

After the declaration stage, the verses of the PSALM should be adapted and expanded to serve as Prayer Points in beseeching God for His help and protection over our lives, families, fellow Nigerian citizens and the entire nation.

This Project is to be carried out as individuals and corporately as Families, Fellowship Groups, Prayer Groups or Local Church Assemblies.
Proprietors of Christian Educational Institutions are expected to also mobilize their pupils and students to continuously recite and chant this PSALM 46.

Every participating Christian in this Project should pray to get into the Spirit of this scripture and not just be satisfied with only the declarations.

A WORD ON PSALM 46

PSALM 46 is a Psalm of trust and holy confidence in God. It is a scripture that is used in times of crisis.
It opens with the description of God as our Refuge, Strength and a very Present help in trouble.
It captures God’s power and sufficiency to protect His people when they face diverse threats and unpleasant challenges like is the case today in Nigeria. Vs 1

It is only natural for people to fear when there is trouble, but this PSALM teaches us to look to God’s help in difficult times because He is in control of all things. It further paints a picture of the uttermost extreme of disaster in the realm of human imagination and says even if trouble should reach that proportion in the nation, it still will not exceed God’s power and faithfulness. Vs 2-6

Therefore, the magnitude of wickedness, injustice, nepotism, bloodshed etc, presently at work in our country notwithstanding, God promises to send us help at the most proper and right time.

By introducing God in verses 7 & 11 as the Lord of Hosts, it is only to remind us of His battle name. He is a man of war. He fights always on the side of His people when they are holy and obedient. He is a terror to the adversaries.

When God is called the God of Jacob, it reminds us of a man who had a fair share of troubles all through his life but was tremendously helped by God. That God that helped Jacob is still our Refuge today, then we are safe and secure.

In verses 8 & 9, God is shown as the one who makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth. He cuts the spear into two and burns the chariots in fire.
When there are no more weapons of war because He has destroyed all of them, then there will be a time of peace, that will be a marvel to everyone.

Be still and know that I am the Lord is the famous 10th verse in this PSALM. On one hand, it exhorts us not to panic as bad as the circumstances may be, but to listen calmly to hear what the counsel of God is. On the other hand, it is a warning to the rebellious of God’s sovereignty and power to stop their wickedness.

CONCLUSION

It is certain that the will of God is in His word and the Spirit of God moves according to His will. Furthermore, it is where the Spirit of God goes that His power and authority will go. This is why this continuous declaration of God’s word in PSALM 46 for one year, will no doubt saturate the heavens over Nigeria with the power and protection of God.
May it also flood the entire land of this nation with God’s help and bring it restoration.

To all who volunteer to participate in this Spirit – led Prayer Project, I congratulate your willingness to stand with God and charge you to ‘Be strong for our people and for the cities of Nigeria’. 1 CHRON. 19:13

God bless Nigeria!

APPENDIX 1:

SS&S 2

A MIGHTY FORTRESS IS OUR GOD

1. A mighty Fortress is our God,
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

2. Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of Gods own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

3. And though this world, with devils filled, Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.
